Biography

Johann Georg was born in 1757 in Iptingen. He was the son of farmer Adam Rapp and Rosina Berger.[1] He founded the Harmony Society in Iptigen, Ge. Due to religious persecution, the group moved to Pennsylvania, where they created a prosperous and pious communal society, which was later acquired by the Welsh Labor reformer, Robert Owen. He passed away in 1847.

Rapp’s financial situation was comfortable because he had married beyond his class, namely Christina Benzinger, the daughter of a wealthy villager. Christina brought a large amount of cash into the marriage, and as Rapp became more occupied with his teachings and religious functions, she and other separatists successfully worked the farm during his absence[2]

Marriage 04 Feb 1783 in Friolsheim. Weaver Johann Georg Rapp (son of the late farmer Adam Rapp from Iptingen) with Christina (daughter of the late Johannes Bentzinger, local council and "Heiligenpfleger" in Friolsheim).[3]

Notes
