Fred was born in 1901. He was the son of John Rau and Helena Beyer. He passed away in 1996.

He married Pansy Elizabeth Bryant on 15 Jun 1923 in Topeka, Kansas. They had three children: Mary Louise, Fred Jr, and Richard.
