Biography

Edward Rawle was born in Cornwall, England.

Edward was born about 1821in Boscastle, Cornwall.^[1] He was the son of William Rawle, a farmer, and Hannah Giddy.^[2]

Edward, son of William Rawle, married Tabitha Cowling, daughter of Samuel Cowling, on 27 February 1849 in Saint Kew, Cornwall.^[2]

Edward went to sea with the Merchant Navy at the age of twelve as a boy seaman and it was fifteen years before he gained his Masters Certificate in 1848.^[9] He was the Captain of the ill-fated Barque John that sank in 1855.

Edward's death (age 67) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1888 in the Plymouth district.^[10]
