Biography

Daniel Rawlings (–1726) of Patuxent River and Calvert was a Quaker, early settler of Maryland and the brother of Aaron Rawlings, a founding father of Anne Arundel.[1][2]

Daniel was the son of Daniel Rawlins alias Butler of Bromham, a weaver and one of the first converts to Quakerism.[1]

Daniel married Ann Nellest of Thames Street, London, widow of Emannuel Nellest, late of Whitley, York, on 5 October 1700 in a Quaker ceremony at Devonshire House, London.[1]

Daniel passed away in 1726, leaving behind a will that mentioning the following individuals:

  • John Clare, son in law;
  • Elizabeth Rawlings, daughter;
  • Ann Rawlings, daughter;
  • Daniel Rawlings, son;
  • Mary Hollaway, daughter; and
  • Isaac Rawlings, son.[3]

  • Daniel was said to be a merchant in his marriage record.[1]
  • Daniel's marriage record noted that he was of 'Potuxon River', Maryland and was the son of Daniel Rawlings of Bromham, weaver, deceased.[1]
  • Daniel's birth year is a rough estimate and has been set to one year after the birth of his brother Aaron.
  • Daniel's will is said to mention land in both Patuxent and Calvert.[2]
