Biography

John Reader was baptised in Gravesend, St George on 29 April 1855, his parents were Richard and Jane. ^[1]

He started his waterman apprenticeship in Wapping on 12 May 1868, and completed it on 8 June 1875, his master was also called John Reader ^[2]

He married Emma Bossley on 25 November 1883, in Milton-Next-Gravesend, Ss Peter & Paul. John was aged 28, a waterman, and the son of Richard Reader, also a waterman. Emma was the daughter of John Bossley, a sawyer, the marriage witnesses were William Bossley and Matilda Davies ^[3]

John died in Bath Street, Gravesend and was buried in Gravesend, Municipal Cemetery on 1 July 1898, he was 42 years old ^[4]
