- He was born to Hiram Reed and Califine Roff.
- He served in the Grand Old Army during the U. S. Civil War.
- He married Louise Whitcomb on October 22, 1868. Louise died on February 1, 1886. According to various records, they had 5 children; Mae, Edward, DeWitt and 2 that are not named.
- After the death of Louise, he married Harriet "Hattie" I. Thomas on November 8, 1886. Oscar and Harriet had 4 children.
- Left to mourn his death was his wife; son, Oscar Dr Witt, Jr Reed (Etta Curtis); and daughters Verle (Peter) Bell and Fern (Adolph) Koch. He was preceded in death by his first wife and infant son, Howard Reed.
