Biography

Nelson Reeve was born in 1852 in Winfarthing, Norfolk, England to Thomas Reeve and Mary Ann (Crisp) Reeve. His birth was registered in Guiltcross, Norfolk in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Crisp.[1]

Nelson Reeve, son of Thomas, a blacksmith, & Mary Anne, was christened on 1 Aug 1852 in Winfarthing.[2]

In 1861 Nelson Reene [Reeve] (age 8, Scholar) lived in Winfarthing with his father Thomas (68 [~58], Blacksmith & Journeyman), mother Mary Ann (48, Blacksmiths Wife), and sister Ellanor (4, Scholar).[3]

Nelson's father passed away before 1871.

In 1871 Nelson Reve (age 17, Labr in Waggonshops) was a boarder at Forcett Street in Cockerton, Durham in the household of Robert Cowperthwaite (23, Labr for Waggonshops) - also in the household were Robert's wife Elizabeth (21) and son George (18 months).[4]

In 1881 Nelson Reeve (age 28, R Carr Railway Waggonwright) lived at Forcett St in Cockerton with his mother Mary Ann (68, Housekeeper).[5]

Nelson Reeve married Elizabeth White in 1883. The marriage was registered in Darlington, Durham in the last quarter of the year.[6]

Nelson and Elizabeth had two sons:

  1. Tom Reeve (1885-)
  2. Alfred "Fred" Reeve (1887-)

In 1891 Nelson Reeve (age 37, Waggon Builder) lived at North Street in East Thickley, Durham with his wife Elizabeth (37) and two sons: Tom (5) and Alfred (3).[7]

Nelson Reeve passed away in 1894, aged 42 years. His death was registered in Darlington in the third quarter of the year.[8]

  • In 1901 Nelson's widow Elizabeth Reeve (47, Office Cleaner) lived at North Street in East Thickley with their two sons: Tom (15, NER Apprentice Machine Works) and Fred (13).[9]
