James Renton died 19 May 1867 at his home at Calverley, Yorkshire, England
from injuries received 16 May 1867 while on his way home with his horse and cart. He fell off the cart due to the horse being startled and was run over by one of the wheels.[6]
James was buried 23 May 1867 at the Cathedral and Parish Church of Bradford, Yorkshire.[7]
He was 58 years of age.[8]
