Biography
Anthony Restwold born before 1517 was the 3rd but eldest surviving son of Edward Restwold and his wife, Agnes Cheyne. By 1541 he had married Alice Wilkes, formerly servant to Queen Catherine Howard, and at this time he was servant to Lord Mautravers. [1]
Alice was questioned about Queen Catherine on 5 November 1541 for a warrant for the Queen's arrest on a charge of treason had been presented to the King on the 1st. On the 7th the Queen was herself questioned. On 22 December Alice pleaded guilty to a charge of misprision of treason for having failed to speak out about the Queen's behaviour prior to her marriage. Parliament confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment and forfeiture of good in February 1542 but Alice was soon granted a pardon.[1]
Anthony succeeded his father in 1547 and in 1554 was returned to Parliament as member for New Woodstock. The following year he was returned as member for Aylesbury.[1]
It is not known when Anthony died childless but it was before 1 January 1560 when his heirs alienated some of his land.[1]
