Biography

Dorothy Evelyn Rhymer was born on April 2, 1921, in Bristol, Sullivan, Tennessee, USA. Throughout her childhood, her family grew to include her siblings Bonnie Mae, Ruby, Roy Chester Jr., Eleanor Agnes, and Billy Wayne Rhymer. By the age of 19, she was living at 318 Broad Street in Bristol and got married on July 5, 1940, in Bristol, Virginia, to Jack Mitchell Hurt.

The couple had three daughters: Carolyn (born in 1942 in Roanoke, Virginia), Jacqueline Lee (born about 1944 in Florida), and Marilyn M (born about 1946 in Florida). Dorothy also had a half-sister, Irma Patricia Riley, born in 1947. Dorothy's residences shifted over the years between Tennessee, Virginia, and Florida, indicating a mobile life.

Her later years saw the passing of her parents, Roy Chester Rhymer Sr. in 1972 and Irma Blanch Buckles in 1974, and her siblings at various times. Her husband, Jack Mitchell Hurt, passed away on October 29, 1999. Dorothy herself passed away on May 19, 2012, in Bristol, Tennessee, and was buried in Tifton, Tift County, Georgia.
