Biography

Elizabeth (usually known as Lillie) was born in New Glenelg, South Australia during 1867. She is the daughter of Charles Frederich Rischbieth and Elizabeth Susan Wills. She passed away in North Adelaide, South Australia during 1929.

Elizabeth was born in New Glenelg, South Australia on 16 July 1867 to Charles Frederich Rischbieth and Elizabeth Susan Wills.[1]

Elizabeth married George Arthur Jury in Glenelg, South Australia on 9 September 1890.[2] The following marriage notice was published in the newspaper, The South Australian Register, on 10 September 1890:[3]

JURY— RISCHBIETH.— On the 9th September, at Glenelg, George Arthur Jury of Adelaide, to Lillie, second daughter of C. Rischbieth, Esq., of Kolenda, New Glenelg.

Elizabeth died in North Adelaide, South Australia on 14 June 1929 at the age of 62 years.[4] The following death notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The News, on 15 June 1929:[5]

JURY.-On June 14 at North Adelaide, Elizabeth Susan, beloved wife of George Arthur Jury.

Elizabeth 's remains were cremated at the West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide, South Australia on 16 June 1929.[5]

The following obituary was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Mail, on 15 June 1929:[6]

Mrs. George Arthur Jury, Who died at her residence at Childers street. North Adelaide, on Friday, June 14. was the daughter of the late Mr. Charles Rischbieth one of the original partners of G. and R. Wills & Co., Limited. She was born at Glenelg in 1867, and the greater part of her life was given over to charitable works. Among her donations was a gift of £12,000 to the Adelaide University for the creation of a chair of literature. Some time ago the Commonwealth Government purchased her home. Kapara, at Glenelg, renaming it Anzac Hostel. She had five children, two sons and three daughters. Both boys enlisted in the war, Charles Jury being at Oxford at the time of the declaration of hostilities. George joined up later. Both held commissions. There are three daughters— Mesdames Harry Aldridge, of Port Augusta, and Gordon Wainwright, of Braund road, Prospect, and Miss Marguerite Jury. Mrs. Jury was dearly loved by all who came in contact with her.
