Jacob River was born in Pennsylvania, and moved with his parents to Indiana as a child. The 1860 census list him as a carpenter. He volunteered to fight in the war to free the slaves. He was a private in the 88th Indiana Infantry, company E, where he served with Distinguished Service. He was killed in the Civil War, either in Dec., 1862, or Jan. of '63. Jacob Rivir was buried at Nashville National Cemetery; Buried At: Section B Site 5963.
