Biography

Ann Roberts was born about 1802 in Llanberis, Caernarvonshire, Wales.

Ann Roberts married Owen James before 1827.

Ann and Owen had at least five children:

  1. Catherine Owen James (1827-)
  2. Robert James (1830-1910)
  3. Margaret James (1832-)
  4. Ellinor James (1834-)
  5. Jane James (1841-)

In 1841 Ann James (age 35-39) lived at Ty Isaf in Llanberis with her husband Owen (40-44) and five children: Cathrine (13), Robert (11), Margaret (9), Ellin (6), and Janes (0), as well as Elizabeth Roberts (20-24).[1]

In 1851 Ann James (age 49) lived in Llanberis with her husband Owen (53, Farmer) and three children: Robert (21, Slate Quarryman), Margaret (18) and Jane (10), as well as lodger Owen Evans (50, Slate Quarry Lab).[2] Daughter Eleanor (17) was living with relatives Robert & Dorothy Roulands.

In 1861 Anne James (age 59) lived at Ceunant in Llanberis with her husband Owen (63, Farmer of 250 Arces Employing 1 Shepherd), son Robert (30, Carter), daughter Jane (20, Dairymaid), niece Jane Williams (5), father? [listed as Owen's father-in-law] Robert Roulands (88, Slate Quarrier), and servant Owen Thomas (10, Shepherd).[3]

Ann's husband passed away in 1866.

In 1871 Anne James (age 69, Farmer) lived in Llanberis with her son Robert (40, Farmer), niece Anne Morgans (17, General Servant), and two servants: Ellen Williams (25, General Servant) and Griffith Prichards (16, Shepherd and General Servant).[4]

In 1881 Ann Roberts [James] (age 77) lived in Llanberis with her son Robert James (50, Farmer & Gen Carrier), daughter-in-law Ann (36), and three grandchildren: Maggie (5, Scholar), Ellis (3, Scholar), and Owen (1), as well as John Williams (27, Slate Quarryman), Ann Morgans (24, Gen Servant Domestic), and David Hughes (14, Ag Servant).[5]

Ann James passed away in 1888, aged 86 years. Her death was registered in Carnarvon in the first quarter of the year.[6]
