Biography

Leonor Delgado's name appears on the Texas DAR Patriot Monument, in the Texas State Cemetery, in Austin, Texas. [1] [2]

Leonor Melean Delgado was born in 1726 in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain, a daughter of Lucas Delgado, III and Maria Ann Melano. Leonor and her family immigrated to Spanish Colonial America, in San Antonio Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718. In 1779, Spanish forces commanded by Bernardo de Gálvez seized the province of West Florida, later known as the Florida Parishes, from the British. Spain's motive was the chance both to recover territories lost to the British, particularly Florida, and to remove the ongoing British threat. Leonor provided supplies in support of the Gálvez expedition. [3]

Leonor is honored for her Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A133227. DAR records indicate that Leonor died after July 18, 1795, in San Antonio and that her husband's name was Juan Jose Flores. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Jose Francisco Flores, who married Juana Francisca Padron; and of their daughter Maria Ignacia Flores, who married Francisco Manuel Salinas. [4]

Leonor married Bernardo Leal, born 1717, in Lanzarole, Canary Islands. Bernardo died August 30,1748 in Villa de San Fernando de Bexar (modern day San Antonio, Texas) [5]

On February 3, 1750, in San Antonio, Leonor married Juan José Flores de Abrego y Valdes. They became the parents of seven children. Some of the children were baptized FLORES, others were baptized FLORES DE ABREGO. Descendants of this family are eligible to join the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, based on Leonor's DAR records.
