On the 1905 census where he is living with his mother-in-law and 2 young daughters, there is another Rosecrans family which could easily be his parents. IF this is the case, then his parents were Washington B Rosecrans and Mary E Unknown.

CAUTION: on the 1905 census where he is living with his mother-in-law and 2 young daughters, he is shown as age 36 which would indicate he was born about 1869^[3].

Josiah married Catherine B Chase^[1][2][3].
