Minnie Rothenberg was born in Russia about 1882. [1]
She was a daughter of Peter Frederick Rothenberg and Nettie [Unknown] Rothenberg, both of whom were also born in Russia. [2]
Around 1900, Minnie married Samuel Glassgold after the death on 17 Feb 1899 of his first wife Ida Rothenberg Glassgold, who was Minnie’s older sister. [3] [4]
The federal census of 1900, listed for Brooklyn Ward 26 on 4 June, found this family: Samuel Glassgold, head, age 32 (born March 1868 in Russia), employed in mattress manufacturing; wife Minnie, age 20 (born July 1879 in Russia). Both indicated that they had been married for zero years. The two children present were Samuel’s daughter Jennie, age 4 (born September 1895 in New York; and his son Harry, age 1 (born February 1899 in New York). By the dates and ages, this child Harry appears to be Cook Adolph Glassgold by an early nickname. Both of these were the children of Ida, who had died shortly after giving birth to Cook Adolph Glassgold[5] Thus, they were Minnie's niece and nephew as well as her step-children.
Samuel and Minnie’s son Bernhart Glassgold was born 8 May 1905 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. His mother’s name was listed as Minnie Rothenberg Glassgold, age 24, and his father was Sam Glassgold, age 38. [6]
The New York State Census of 1915 found this family in the town of Fallsburg, Sullivan County: Sam Glassgold, head of the family, age 48 and had lived for twenty years in the United States; wife Minnie Glassgold, age 33, and had lived 20 years in the US; Sam's daughter Jennie Glassgold (by his first wife Ida), age 19; his son Adolph Glassgold (by his first wife Ida), age 16; son George Glassgold, age 14; and son Burnhart Glassgold, age 10. [7]
The federal census of 1930, listed for the borough of Manhattan (Assembly district 22, block F) on 25 April, found this family: Samuel Glassgold, head, age 62, born in Russia; Minnie Glassgold , wife, age 48, also born in Russia; son Burnhart, age 24, born in New York, married; and daughter-in-law Eleonore Glassgold, age 23, and born in New York. [8]
Samuel Glassgold died 28 September 1937 [9]
Minnie Rothenberg Glassfold spent her last years with her son Burnhart in Aurora, Illinois, and died there in 1966.[10]
