Joseph L. Rozmus, 93, of Bedford, died March 22, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River, Vt., after a long illness.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1909, in Manchester, son of Antoni and Mary Ann (Mastol) Rozmus and attended Manchester schools. He moved to Bedford in 1985.
He worked as a shoe cutter at J.F. McElwain Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1963.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Fourth Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was involved with the invasion of Roi-Namur in the Marshall islands and the invasions of Saipan in the Mariana Islands. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Henry J. Sweeney Post 2 American Legion; the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1, Manchester; and the Fourth Marine Division Association, Benjamin Toland III Chapter 38 of Manchester.
He was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church. He enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing and in his later years, tending to his fruit trees.
Family members include his wife of 67 years, Genevieve (Jeglinski) Rozmus, a son, Jay Rozmus of Bedford; and nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private. Burial will take place in St. Hedwig Cemetery.
