She was the loving wife of Arthur N. Garis for 52 years. Harriet was born in Harrison City, PA to the late Harry M. Rugh and the late Alta G. (Baughman) Rugh.
She graduated from Penn Township High School (now known as Penn-Trafford High School) in Harrison City, PA. Harriet was employed as an assembler for North American Drager (now known as Draeger, Inc.) in Telford, PA for more than 20 years. She then worked part-time as a receptionist for Rosenberger’s Cold Storage in Hatfield, PA, until retiring in 1990. Harriet was a member of Silverdale Brethren in Christ Church.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and often donated her baby hats and blankets to Grand View Hospital. Harriet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching TV game shows. In their younger years, Harriet and her husband traveled by car to different states to enjoy the sights.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Eric N. Garis & wife, Lisa of Souderton, PA, Todd M. Garis of Telford, PA; five grandchildren – Eric, Jr., Joey, Amanda, Lauren & Matthew; a great-granddaughter – Julianna; three sisters, Annona "Toots" Morrison of Chesterfield, VA, Gladys Laick of Mount Pleasant, PA; two brothers, Kenneth Rugh & wife, Judy of Jeannette, PA and Harry Rugh, Jr. of Seven Valleys, PA.
In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd "Sonny" Rugh & Thomas Rugh and two sisters, Wanda "Sis" Wilson and Glenda Crosby.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Silverdale Brethren in Christ Church, 165 W. Main St, P.O. Box 237, Silverdale, Pennsylvania 18962 where friends may view and meet with the family from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm.
Burial will take place at Silverdale Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery.
