Rev William Henry Ryder was born on 24 Jul 1842 in Elyria, Elyria, Ohio, USA. He was the son of Oliver Roberts Ryder and Harriett Jackson. Rev William Henry Ryder married first Mary Elizabeth Bushnell on 29 Jun 1870 in Oberlin, Lorain, Ohio, USA and they had 5 Children. He married second Ada Trip on 12 Oct 1881 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, US and they had one child. He passed away on 6 Apr 1918 in Andover Essex, [1].[2]
William was buried at Phillips Academy Cemetery, Andover, Massachusetts. His memorial has links to those of family members.[3]
William Henry Ryder was born to Oliver and Harriet Ryder. His father was a merchant. William was ordained as a minister in the Universalist Church of America in 1869 and served in the pulpit in Watertown, Wisconsin, Malden, Massachusetts and Cincinnati, Ohio. After Cincinnati, he took a position as professor at Andover College in 1888 where he taught Greek and Theology specializing in New Testament Interpretation. He remained at Andover until his death in 1918. Ryder first married Mary Elizabeth Bushnell with whom he had five children. One child, Frederick "Jack" Ryder became the first paid football coach at Ohio State University. He later became a long time sports writer for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Another son, Arthur Ryder, became America's foremost expert in the Sanskrit language.
After the death of his first wife, Ryder married Ada Tripp on 12 Oct 1881. They had one son, Charles, who became a leading figure in the treatment of tuberculosis operating a sanitorium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
