Biography

Antonia Saccaro, the daughter of Antonino Saccaro and Francesca Cutrera, is born on 13 May 1859 in Corleone.^[1]

Antonia marries Carmelo Gennaro on 31 October 1880 in Corleone.^[2]

They have six known children, of whom five are currently known: Lucia (c. 1881), Antonino/Tony (c. 1884-8), Paolo, (c. 1885), Gaetano (b. 1891), and Salvatore/Sam(1893).

I estimate Lucia is born soon after her parents marry. She is named after her paternal grandmother.

Antonino is born around 1884, based on his reported age at immigration^[3], and is about four years younger in the 1910 US census when he appears, living with his parents.

Salvatore is born on 26 January 1894 in Corleone.^[4]

Paolo (c. 1885) and Gaetano (c. 1891) were both born in Italy, according to the 1910 census.

Lucia marries Vincenzo Leone on 24 September 1899 in Corleone.^[5]

Lucia and Vincenzo have immigrated to New York City by 1905, when Antonino joins them there.^[3]

Carmelo and his family immigrate in 1906, according to the 1910 census.

In the 1910 federal census of Jefferson County, Louisiana, taken 15 April, Carmelo Gennaro, 52 (b. 1858), heads a household on Metairie Ridge Rd with his wife of 30 years (m. 1880), Antonia, 50, and children Paolo, 25 (b. 1885), Tony, 22 (b. 1888), Gaetano, 19 (b. 1891), and Sam, 17 (b. 1893), all born in Italy. Antonia has had six children, all living. They immigrated in 1906. Carmelo and his sons are all employed as truck farmers.

Their next door neighbor is also from Corleone: Mike Caludo, born Mario Collura, owns his own farm. He lives with his wife and children.^[6]
