- Note: James Thomas "Bub" Safrit Sr., 81, of 400 Irish Potato Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Universal Health Care, Concord. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Near Calvary Baptist Church of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Mike Mullis officiating. Burial will be at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens, Concord. Mr. Safrit was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Luther Martin Safrit and the late Nell Sifford Safrit. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having fought in World War II. He was a retired self-employed home builder. He attended Near Calvary Baptist Church. Bub loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a daily witness for him. Bub enjoyed helping others and making people laugh. He served as chaplain at Mount Pleasant Correctional Institute during the late 1960s. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, Janie (Kluttz) Safrit of Concord; son, James T. "Jim" Safrit and wife, Beth, of Concord; daughter, Susan Safrit Kiker and husband, Tony, of Concord; sisters, Margie Poarch of Kannapolis and Alma Blackwelder of Concord; and grandchildren, Jana, Kyle and Kara Kiker.
