To judge by the date of his marriage to Agnes Carpenter (1562)[1] George was probably born in the late 1530s or no later than about 1540. This assumes his marriage to Agnes was his first marriage.
A warrant for his arrest was issued at the Epiphany Session of the Wiltshire Court of Quarter Sessions in January, 1586, but the details of that case are unknown due to record loss. Equally, George's fate is also unknown.[2]
Research Notes
Four other Sainsbury individuals who were likely or known to have been born in Trowbridge from perhaps the mid-1530s up to the mid-1550s may have been George's siblings. Equally, if Agnes Carpenter was George's second wife, these others might have been George's children from a prior marriage:
i. Thomas perhaps born c. 1535 married Edith Cowper or Cooper on 7 January 1561 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England[3]
ii. Joan baptised Trowbridge 1547 (no father's name recorded)[4]
iii. Dorothy baptised Trowbridge 1551 (no father's name recorded)[5]
iv. Anne perhaps born c.1555 married Robert Kelly on 30 August 1579 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England[6]
An Agnes Sainsbury married William Langford in Trowbridge in 1544.[7] Agnes was therefore likely born in the early 1520s and might therefore have been a sister or an aunt of George.
