408 Squadron's Handley Page Halifax II (#JD107), with an aircrew of seven, took off at night from RAF Leeming for an air operation to bomb the Breuil steelworks in Le Creusot, France. JD107 was shot down by a German night-fighter, crashing near Caen in France and taking the lives of four members of he crew.
