Many thanks. Yes...I will look for the Sanford memorial chapel during my next visit to Somerset. Both my parents are buried in Somerton with many local links to Devon and Somerset. MyHeritage is showing that John Sanford had six other children: William, George, Thomas, Peregrine, Henry William and John, but I have not been able to check the birthdates.

I am interested, as a descendant, in Frances Sanford, 1750-1830, who married Alexander Popham 1729-1810. The marriage is well documented. What is uncertain is who her parents were. Some suggest that they were John Sanford 1700-1774 and Catherine Chichester 1717-1767, but I am unable to locate any definitive evidence. Any evidence of such evidence will be much appreciated.

The marriage documents from 1772 describe her as Frances Sanford, spinster, daughter of Revd John Sanford of Walford, West Monkton, clerk. There are many records relating to the Sanford and Popham families at the Somerset Archive, which is well worth a visit if you are interested in them. Also worth a visit is the Sanford memorial chapel at Nynehead. NB John Sanford was not born in 1700. He was one year old when his father died in 1718.
