Son Of Former Resident Retires From The Air Force
Lieut. Col. Warren D. Saylor, formerly of Morrill, retired at the end of July after 24 years service in the Air Force.
He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal at ceremonies held by Major General LeBailey, AF Director, in the Pentagon on July 29.
Col. Saylor entered the service in 1942 and served during WW II, flying 30 combat missions as a Bombardier-Navigator of B-17 bombers.
In 1950 Col. Saylor was assigned to the 3rd Bomb Wing in Korea where he flew 53 combat sorties.
He is married to the former Lucille Eden of Hollenberg, and they have two boys, Scott 14, and Jeffrey, 11.
Col Saylor's parents, (both deceased) were Leonard and Laura Saylor of Morrill.
His mother will be remembered here as Laura Severin of the Salem community.
Col. Saylor's decorations during his service career include the Distinguished Flying Cross,
Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal,
Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster,
the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and others.
With his family , he has relocated in Southern California where he is Assistant Public Relations manager
of Northrop Corporation's Norair Division in Hawthorne.--Brown Co. World
