Leona Gertrude Scheibler was born on 1 December 1934 in Rush County, Indiana to Lucian Augusta Fleming Scheibler (1900-1958) and Virginia Mabel Ryker (1904-1950). ^{[1] [2] [3]}

Leona Gertrude Scheibler married Carl Richard McLaughlin (1929-2006), son of Charles Harrison McLaughlin (1892-1970) and Dema Adeline Reynolds (1901-1973) on 31 December 1950 in Rushville, Rush County, Indiana. ^[4]

Leona G. McLaughlin, 77, 100 Canterbury Lane, Portland, passed away Wednesday afternoon in the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born in Rush County, IN, December 1, 1934 the daughter of Lucien and Virgie (Ryker) Scheibler. She was married December 31, 1950 to Carl McLaughlin who passed away March 12, 2006. She was retired from the Jay School Corporation and was a member of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are two sons, Dan McLaughlin of Portland, and Charles McLaughlin of Warsaw; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Carolyn) Hammond of Yorktown and Barbara McLaughlin of Portland; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Laux.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Arnold presiding. Burial will follow in the Green park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m.

Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society or State of the Heart Hospice.
