Marcel Schein was born 9 June 1902[1] in Trsztena, Árva, Hungary, which is present day Žilinský, Slovakia.[2] His parents were Henry Schein and Hermina Messinger.[1]
While at the university in Zurich, he fell in love with Hilde Schoenbeck, a blonde haired, blue-eyed Lutheran engineering student from Saxony.[3] On June 2, 1927 they married.[1][4]
His son Edgar Schein was born 5 March 1928.
Marcel studied at universities of Vienna, Würzburg and Zürich, where he got his PhD with "magna cum laude." In the years that followed, he taught at several European universities until 1938. Then he emigrated to the United States.
At the University of Chicago he became a member of staff at the Institute of Physics. He was simple researcher from 1938 to 1943, then an Assistant Professor from 1943 to 1945, and an Associate Professor until 1946. In 1946 he became full professor. His main field on research was cosmic rays.
He passed away 20 February 1960 at the age of 57 in Chicago, Illinois, United States and was buried in the Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.[2][5][1]
