Eva May (Shipp) Kavanagh was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Eva May Shipp was born on September 25, 1881 in Little Essex Street in The Rocks, Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales. She was the seventh child of Canton born Charles Ah Ship (~1838–1885), a Cabinet Maker, and his wife Ellen (born McCormick/McCormack in Goulburn, New South Wales).^[1]

Eva was twice married.

In 1903, she married Robert Pert, a Stevedore.^[2] Their marriage was registered in Sydney.^[3] They had six children.

Her first husband, Robert Pert, died in Sydney in 1925.^[10]

In 1929, she married her second husband, John Patrick Kavanagh. Their marriage was registered in Glebe.^[11] In 1930, Eva and John were living at 56 Leonard Avenue, South Kensington and her husband John was working as a tramway inspector. In the 1930 Census, her occupation was recorded as "home duties".^[12] They were still at this address in 1934.^[13]

Eva Kavanagh died on December 30, 1934. Her death was registered in Redfern.^[14] Her remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery at Rookwood the following day.^[13] There is a digital memorial for her on FindAGrave but with no photo.^[15]

Research Notes

1. Many researchers elsewhere wrongly show the Eva May "Schipp" who was born in 1881 and later married Robert Pert was a daughter of Frederick Charles Schipp and his wife Ellen (most show Ellen McCormick although some show Ellen Nolan). I have found a tree published online in 2004 by MS which shows this relationship and I suspect this tree is the original source. In the meantime, the error has been propogated extensively and can now be found in many trees.
