Biography

Adam Schleig, Jr (John Adam Schleich in children's birth records and his will, see below) was born about 1774, the son of Adam Schleig, Sr who immigrated from Germany.[1]

Adam married Catherine Derck (~1775 - ). Their children were:[1]

  1. Sarah Schleig (~1807 - )
  2. Adam Schleig III (1809 - )[2]
  3. Salome Schleig (1810 - )[3]
  4. Catherine Schleig (1810 - <1840)[4] (Catherine and Salome were twins)
  5. Daniel Schleig (1812 - 1872)
  6. Elizabeth Schleig (~1814 - ~1896)
  7. Michael Schleig (1818 - )[5]
  8. Martin Schleig (<1820 - ).

Adam taught German in the local schools.[1]

In the 1820 census Adam (as was his father) was in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, United States.[6]

John Adam filed a warrant on 9 June 1823, survey returned the same day, for 175 acres and 98 perches of land situated in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County.[7]

In his will, dated 15 Mar 1825, John left specific bequests to his wife Catherine, sons Adam, Daniel and Michael (who was still a minor), and to "my four other children" who were unnamed. He named as executors his wife Catherine and George Dürck, who was almost certainly Catherine's brother. John Adam Schleich died about May 1825 in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County and his estate passed probate on 12 May 1825 in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, United States.[8]
