Johann George "John" Schmitt was born 22 May 1776 to Johann Peter Schmitts and Anna Magdalena in Adam, Havixbeck, Coesfeld, Westphalia, Prussia, Germany.

Johan married Anna Elisabetha Kleiber 23 July 1809 Laudenbach u Witzenhausen, Hessen, Deutschland. She was the daughter of Heinrich Kieiber,

Among other possible children they had Jacob Schmitt born 15 October 1809 Steinfeld, Steinfeld, Main-Spessart, Unterfranken, Bavaria, Germany who emigrated to the Canada from Alsace, Prussia in 1823. He eventuraly migrated to Illinois and died in Missouri in 1873. It appear that hey also has a son named Johan Peter Schmitt born 19 November, 1816,

Johann Schmitt died 5 February 1879, Duchroth, Dad Kreuznach, Rhineland, Palatnate, Germany. His wife Anna died 31 oct 1851.

Care must be taken as this Johan George Schmidt also had a son named Johan Peter Schmidt thus the two Johan Peters (father and son of Johann George) can be confused. The family name is spelled variously as Schmitt and Schmidt as well as other variations in different documents. Any additional sources or data on Johan and his family would be greatly appreciated.
