Biography

Presley was born in New Mexico to Franz "Frank" Michael Schmitt, who was born 24 June 1879 in Igersheim, Jagstkreis, Württemberg, Germany and who became a US citizen in Pennsylvania on 9 January 1905 and Teresita M. Martínez, who had been born in New Mexico on 25 January 1890. His mother and father died, respectively, on 11 July 1965 and 5 September 1974, respectively in Los Cerillos, New Mexico and are buried in the Cerrillos Catholic Cemetery Cerrillos, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, where Teresita's mother, Teofila Nieto Martínez, was buried in 1941.

Presley served as a Private First Class in First Calvary Infantry Regiment of the Second Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was seriously wounded by a missile in the North Korea sector on 19 September 1951 and hospitalized. He returned to active duty on 14 October 1951 and remained on combat duty until his unit was transferred to Japan in January 1952.

Presley J Schmitt Sr. beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather passed away peacefully with family by his side May 14, 2015. He is survived by his wife Sarah Schmitt, sister Alice Martinez, children Michael and wife Delfinia, Susie and husband Rudy, Ralph and wife Dolores, Presley and wife Corrine, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral mass was held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 9am, burial was held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery 11:15am with military honors, followed by a reception at St. Anne's Parish Hall.
