Biography

1868 Elias Schuffman was born in Russia/Poland in December of 1868 or 1869. ^[1][2]

1900 He immigrated to the USA this year and in June was living as a lodger with the Morris Goldfelt family at 529 Halstead Street in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. Elias was employed as a tailor, probably in Morris Goldfelt's tailoring business. Elias reported on the 1900 US census that he was married and had been for 11 years. ^[1]

1915 We find Elias with his family living at 100 Barclay in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA at the time of the 1915 New Jersey state census. This census gives Elias's birth year as 1869. He continued to work as a tailor. The Schuffman (Schfman in the record) household comprised:
