Biography

Nicholas Scott was baptised 27th June, 1820, at Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfries, Scotland, the daughter of Alexander Scott and Margaret Telfer. ^[1]

Marriage. On 11th June, 1847, Nicholas Scott married Edward Stanley at Moffat, Dumfries, Scotland. ^[2]

Emigration. By 1851, they were in the Australian Colony of New South Wales, baptising a son, Nicholas.

Nicholas Stanley passed away 1894, age recorded at 72 years. Her death was registered in Richmond, Victoria, Australia, naming her parents as Alex Scott and Margaret Tellford. ^[3]

DEATHS

STANLEY.—On the 19th inst, at 107 Cremorne-street, Richmond, Nicholas, the wife of Edward Stanley, and beloved mother of Mrs. Bissett, Alex. and Edward Stanley, aged 72 years. A colonist of 45 years. At rest. ^[4]

Burial. Following a service held 21st February, 1894, her remains were interred in the Boroondara Cemetery, commonly known as Kew Cemetery. Already in the grave was her infant granddaughter, Alice Maud Stanley, who had predeceased her by a decade. In 1899, they were joined by husband and grandfather, Edward. ^[5]
