Johann Valentin, son of Peter Seeler and wife Maria Magdalena, was born on 1 June 1728 and was baptized in the Freinsheim Evangelische KB [Lutheran Church] in Freinsheim, Bavaria. In 1732, the family left Freinsheim on the ship Johnston bound for America, and Valentine was included on the passenger list along with his parents, two siblings, and one half sibling. The family settled in Trappe, Montgomery [then Chester] County, Pennsylvania. On 13 April 1746, Valentine and his two full siblings were confirmed in the Trappe Lutheran Church [now Augustus Lutheran] with his last name recorded as Sahler.[1]
Valentine apparently lived out his days in or near Trappe and became known by the anglicized surname Saylor. He died on 22 April 1807 and was laid to rest in the Augustus Lutheran Cemetery. His mostly legible gravestone can be seen on his Findagrave memorial.[2]
