Eliza was born in 1851[1] in Tattershall Thorpe, Lincolnshire, England. She was the daughter of John Sellars and Mary Boucher.
The family lived in Tattershall Thorpe.[2] Eliza's father died in 1870 at the age of 52.[3] At the time of the 1871 census Eliza worked as a domestic servant for the Heaps family in Leeds, Yorkshire.[4]
