Raymond served with the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd Class, Machinist’s Mate 3c aboard the USS Cooper, (MM3)

MM3C Raymond Wilfred Seymour went Missing in Action on December 3, 1944 (aged 21) when the USS Cooper was torpedoed by the Japanese destroyer Take in Ormoc, Leyte Province, Eastern Visayas, Philippines during The Battle of Ormoc Bay.
