With the outbreak of World War I, Robert answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the army on December 3, 1917. He held the rank of sergeant and served with distinction as a member of the Central Infantry Officers Training School in Company F at Camp McArthur, Texas. The 1950 census found Robert residing in Ashdown, Little River County, Arkansas, where he had transitioned into the role of an abstractor. This career shift showcased his adaptability and versatility in the professional world.
