CHRISTENING: 24 June 1838, Sawston, Cambs.,England
Employed in Galashiels, Selkirkshire, as a skinner (1867-91 at
least). Resided after marriage in 1867 at 69 High Street, Hawick. Resided with
wife and 7 children in 1881 at 24 Kirkbrae, Galashiels, Selkirkshire. (Family
name referred to in LDS transcribed copy of 1881 Census as 'Shelduck', probably due to copyist's error; the 1871 and 1891 Censuses clearly have 'Sheldrick'). By 1891
they had moved to 67 Victoria Street, Galashiels, and only 4 children remained.
at home.
Entries in the Marriage Register (1867) and on his son Leonard's birth
certificate (1873) show his occupation as Skinner, Journeyman. On the Marriage
Register entry for his son Leonard (1894) his occupation is shown as Currier. On
the entry in the Marriage Register and in the Register of Births, David has made
'His Mark' rather than a signature, suggesting he was probably illiterate.
DEATH: Died at 67 Victoria Street, Galashiels, at 4.30 pm. Death Certificate
and gravestone say aged 74 years, but was probably 77 year based on Sawston Parish Records which were nearer in time to the event of his birth.
CAUSE OF DEATH: Cerebral haemorrhage (right side).
MARRIAGE: Married according to the rites of the U.P. (United Presbyterian).
Church. [2]
