OBITUARY. CHARLOTTE M. SEWELL. The death of Mrs. Charlotte Matilda Sewell, relict of the late Mr. Sewell, which took place at her residence, Mt. Caroline, during the early hours of New Year's Day, removes one of the very earliest pioneers of the Eastern Districts, the deceased lady, with her husband, having settled on the land in the early seventies long before there was a railway East of Northam and in the days when everything had to be purchased or sold at York, and the journey made by waggon. The late Mrs. Sewell was 82 years of age and her demise was brought about by cancer. The sad news was received with regret, particularly by the older families of the district, and the relatives have received messages condolence from all parts of the State. The funeral took place on Wednesday and was very largely attended. The first part of an impressive service was conducted by the Rev. R. J. Smith in St. John's Anglican Church and the latter part at the graveside. Among those who sent beautiful wreaths and floral tributes were the following :—Connie and Family, Kathleen. Fred and Clara (sons and daughters), Geof Simmons, J. R. Moore, Mr. and Mrs Humpleby,Mr. and Mrs. L. Ripper, Mr. and Mrs. W. Ripper, Mr. and Mrs. L. Denbigh abd Mr. and Mrs. Field. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. H. J. Adams.
