Catherine Ann "Katie" Shields, the daughter of Thomas Joseph Shields (1870–1945) and Bridget Mathews (1882–1947), was born on 12 July 1905 in Maeystown, Monroe County, Illinois. [1]
Catherine and William M. Griffin
(1902-1975),
the son of Louis Griffin and Magdalena Mary "Lena" Wierschem,
were issued a marriage license on 19 June 1925 in St. Louis City, Missouri.
They were married the next day in Luxemburg, St. Louis County, Missouri.

- Jerry Thomas Griffin (1927–1986)
- Robert L. Griffin (1931-2016)
An obituary for William M. Griffin, of RR 1, Fults, Illinois (died 14 June 1975) mentioned Mrs. Catherine Griffin, nee Shields, as his surviving wife. [3]
Catherine died at the age of 81 on 17 December 1986 in Red Bud, Randolph County, Illinois. [4]
She was buried in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Waterloo, Monroe County, Illinois. [4]
