Biography

Mary Shingler was born in about 1716 in Wincham, which was in the parish of Great Budworth, in Cheshire, and she was christened on the 26th of August 1716 in Saint Mary’s and All Saints’, in Great Budworth, which was also in the parish of Great Budworth, in Cheshire. Mary’s father was Samuel Shingler.[1]

Mary was one of four children born to her father Samuel, and her three siblings were Samuel (1714 – 1715) who died in childhood,[2][3] and twins Elisabeth and Samuel (1718),[4][5] who were also all born in Wincham, and who were also all christened in Saint Mary’s and All Saints’, in Great Budworth.

Between at least 1716 and 1718 Mary, and her family lived in Wincham. However, by 1732 Mary was living in Gorstage, in the parish of Weaverham, in Cheshire, which was about 5 miles from Wincham.

When Mary was about 16 years old her son William Shingler (1732) was born in Gorstage and christened in Saint Mary’s, in Weaverham, which was also in the parish of Weaverham.[6]
