Biography

Albert Greene Shippee was probably named after East Greenwich attorney Albert Greene who later served as RI Attorney General and RI Federal Senetor. Although Albert Greene Shippee's tombstone indicates an 1819 birth and a 1904 death, various records throughout his life point to a birth in April 1820 and his death certificate states that his date of death was 23 Feb. 1903. The 1850 U.S. Census for West Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island, records the family of Albert G. Shippee. Albert is 30 years old and white. Also listed are: Mary Shippee, 24 years; John A. Shippee, 3 years; Henry T. Shippee, 1 year; everyone in the family was born in Rhode Island.
