Genealogy

Frank was an avid genealogist - especially for his SLOAT family line. He was meticulous in researching and referencing all the data in his databases. He maintained several genealogy databases, the primary one for his SLOAT data being maintained on RootsWeb^[4]. He had a DNA-Y test, which he considered to be the 'gold standard' for the SLOAT line back to Jan Pietersen Slodt/Slott (the initial 1650 immigrant/founder of the majority SLOAT line in the USA).

Frank also maintained a secondary RootsWeb site that he used for less certain persons/data and for those who were not SLOATs.

His direct line pedigree is also recorded in a web page on Tripod.com^[1]

Note that his death is not recorded on any of his web sites because (the obvious) he is not alive to update them - and apparently he did not request anyone else to update them on his passing. (Noting that, per RootsWeb computer settings, until he has a death date listed, or is more than 80 years old, he is reported only as 'Living' Sloat.)

Regarding Frank's DNA test: I am in the same Y-DNA group as Frank, but Frank traces his line back through Jan's first son Pieter Jansen Slot whereas I may trace back to the second son, Jan Jansen Slot.

There were several genealogists quite active on the SLOAT/SLOTT line in the 1980s-early 2000s. I communicated with Frank (and the others) frequently via email and using the now-defunct SLOAT-L Archives RootsWeb Mailing List.

Frank's certification as a Professional Engineer made him very detailed and critical of his genealogy sources as well. I am not aware of where all his resource information has gone. Many of his entries tended to refer to the sources as 'a file I possess'. He most likely donated his library to a local genealogy club/society.
