Biography

Albert L Smedley was born in Michigan 9 February 1842 the son of Alanson Smedley and Perthena Crosby.

Albert appeared on the 1850 Census at Vernon, Shiawassee, Michigan with his parents.^[1]

Albert served in Co. E 17th Michigan Regiment Infantry during Civil War enlisting at Ypsilanti 11 August 1862 for 3 yrs. age 20. He was mustered out at Delaney House, Washington D.C. 3 June 1865.^{[2] [3] [4]}

Albert and Mary Barnes married 22 February 1868 at Flint, Genesee, Michigan.^[5]

Albert died 28 October 1909 at St. Johns, Clinton, Michigan.^[6] He is buried in Lovejoy Cemetery, Vernon Township, Shiawassee, Michigan.^[7]

Entries which are consistent with Albert and his sister Ruth appeared on the 1860 Census in the household of J.B. Cutshaw in Fairfield Township, Lenawee, Michigan. Research is needed to determine if there is a family connection. Albert's brother-in-law Elijah Barnes served in Co. H 10th Michigan Regiment Cavalry.^[9]
