McRay (aka "Cray") Snow was born about 1856 in North Carolina. On the 1870 US Census he was recorded as "Cray Snow," 16 years old, single, living with his widowed mother, Sarah (Unknown) Snow, age 50, and an older sister, Ann Snow, age 18, single, on a farm in Bryan Township, Surry County, North Carolina, USA. He was called a "Farm Laborer". Next door lived Anna (Unknown) Snow, age 50, with 3 sons: Thomas, 19; Hilary, 17; and Van Snow, 12 years old. [1] Cray's father's name is not known but it's likely he was one of the "Weather-named Snows" who descended from Frost And Snow Sr. (1742-1813), born 1742 in Louisa County, Virginia.
Cray Snow, 48 years old, married "Julia" Caudill, age 46, on 11 September 1904 in Alleghany County, North Carolina. He used the name "Cray Snow" and on the marriage certificate declared his parents were "Unknown". The couple declared they lived in "Panther's Creek" Township, Alleghany, North Carolina. [2]
On the 15 April 1910 census, McRay Snow, as he was recorded, had been married to Juda Jones for six years. They were living on a farm in Cranberry Township, Alleghany, North Carolina, on Sparta Road, located near her son-in-law and daughter, Ed and Dora Stamper. [3]
Cray Snow passed away in 1927 in Ashe County, North Carolina. He was buried at Smethport Cemetery, West Jefferson, Ashe County, North Carolina, USA. [4]
