Our family records clearly show that John Campbell and Minerva Jones married on 3 Jan 1833, and one of their children was George Clay Campbell, to whom our line is undisputed. The question is: Who is this John Campbell? Some records show him to be John N Campbell, and indeed on the FamilySearch.org website there is a listing for this name, but with very little information. The other option would have been Dr. John Hamilton Campbell (b. 21 Jun 1808, d. 16 Feb 1890), son of David Campbell and Catherine Bowen. The he is buried in the Leeville Cemetery in what is now Lebanon, Tennessee.

If this is true, his parents would have been David Campbell III (1781-1841) and Catherine Bowen (1785-1868). And his father appears to be Col. David Campbell. (Is this "Black David"? Yet another mystery!)
