Please contact the project leader David Charbonneau or post a comment at the foot of the page. If you have any questions, just ask. Thanks!

Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Surname Variants

Related surnames that are included as part of this study include: Charbeneau, Charbonnier, Charbonnet, Carboneau, Charbonnel, Carbonell, Corbineau, Carbone, Carbine, Carbon, Carbo, Cole.

Task List

1. Work toward collaborative efforts joining other Charbonneau profile managers in development of a quality Charbonneau branch.

2. Research original documentation instead of derivation and include verified sources producing trustworthy Charbonneau profiles.

3. Compose detailed, interesting, accurate and well-sourced biographies for the Charbonneau profiles.

4. Explore profiles for any potential merges, ensure accuracy and survey for the possibility of duplicates.

5. Males with Charbonneau surname or variant and haven't, consider testing your yDNA [for our FTDNA Charbonneau DNA Study].

First heard our name referenced when we were studying about Lewis & Clark. Then learning that Toussaint Charbonneau really became noteworthy because of Sacajawea. Years later I discovered Great Great Grandfather Dave had been an Adirondack Mountain guide for the Brown's Tract Guide Association in the late 1800's. He was one of the pioneers of Old Forge in what was then described as the wilderness of Herkimer County, NY.

Nice project! My branch of the tree seems to have dropped one N (Charboneau) upon settling in Cheboygan, Michigan (via Quebec). The last ancestor with two N's is: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Charbonneau-319
