In reply to your query re Col John Hutchinson, there is a fair amount of
material on the Hutchinson family tree in England from a Barnard circa
1250 down to Col Hutchinson.
Desdendants from the marriage between Col H and Lucy Apsley are not as clear. Apparently, their third son, John, married a Miss Morgan, of Wales, and they had two sons. One is thought to have gone to Russia and the other (John?) to South Carolina where the Hutchinson family was given a large tract of land by Charles II (in order, I believe, to have them away from England). A Dr. John Hutchinson was in Charleston by Aug 5, 1709.
Tradition has it that he was the son, or grandson of the John who came to SC (likely before 1690). Hutchinson family names in SC include a number of Johns, a Lucy, and other names related to the Hutchinsons of Nottingham (Owthorpe - the family estate). As a SC Hutchinson, I had been told from my youth that I was descended from a Mathias Hutchinson, A SC Senator in Colonial times (B 1746-d 1812) - (I have proven records of the Mathias connection) who was a descendant of Col John Hutchinson (verifying that connection has been hard to do as records were destroyed when Sherman torched Columbia). Hope this helps somewhat.

Below is the response to a query about the source of the above,

John Hutchinson II 1641 - 1677 Owthorpe, Nottingham, England
to: Joe Sneed
04/11/15
Joe, that's info I supplied. I grew up in the low country of SC (Summerville, 2 miles inland from Charleston) and had access to family records. Most of the info in that bio was from a man, John Henry Rice (whom I never met and likely died in early 1940's) who was a local historian of the area known as the "ACE Basin" -named after three rivers (Ashepoo, Combahee, Edisto) and where Hutchinson Island (low swampy) is a part of. He provided most of the narrative. Interesting that early family names in the settlement within the Basin include many of the names of Col John's ancestors. Most of the Hutchinson names associated with the early land grants changed names when few males survived and the females married - thus changing the names of the land granted portions. Was somewhat difficult tracking down precise dates, places, etc. as Sherman burned the State records and others were lost at sea when a ship carrying them to England in the1860's foundered.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Dwight
