Germantown, Ohio was first established in 1804 by German speaking settlers from Berks, Pennsylvania namely Philip Gunckel, Christopher Emerick, David Miller and George Kern. It was incorporated on 16 May 1833. Philip Gunckel, recognized as the founder of Germantown, laid out the plat in 1814.
