In mid 1919 my Uncle, Maurice Edward "Pat" Kenealy married Ina Bryony Joseph at Steyning. This is recorded in the English BMD on page 267 of the Marriages, July- August-September 1919 for Edward M.V. Kenealy marrying a Joseph.and on page 256 for Ina B.T. Joseph marrying a Kenealy. This is apparently a cast iron record of a marriage. When I asked the General Registry Office of the UK in 2011for a copy of the Marriage Certificate, they wrote to me saying no marriage took place. I have tried to get a better record from the Sussex Records Office in Lewes, but could not find one there. It is very strange to me that the UK Government can deny an event which is recorded in its own files.
